My sister asked me which campground was my all time favorite. If I could only pick one location, which would it be? That’s a tough one. I named off 3 or 4 places and listed what I liked about each location. I couldn’t decide on just one.
I asked her the same question and without hesitation she said, “Lawson’s Landing.” The more I thought about it, the more I liked her answer. Lawson’s Landing is pretty spectacular. The kids love it there.
It’s situated right at Dillon Beach in Northern California. It’s about a three hour drive for us which isn’t too bad. And the windy roads are pretty minimal so I’m usually able to keep my motion sickness at bay.
Here’s a drive through tour of the property taken in real time.
The kids love to play in the sand dunes almost as much as they love chasing the waves. There’s plenty to keep them busy and Kalani loves that he can crab off the pier and fish off the beach. There’s something for everybody. Me? I love relaxing on the beach and watching the kids run around on the sand.
It’s also really close to oyster farms if that’s something you’re into. But even if you’re not up for a drive, the general store at Lawson’s Landing carries bags of oysters from Hog Island. Our preferred oyster spot is Bodega Bay Oyster Co. It’s only about a 15 minute drive from Dillon Beach and their oysters come straight from Tomales Bay.
When we are itching for some WiFi we head into town and grab something to eat at Tomales Deli. Their caesar salad is delicious and big enough to share. The kids enjoy their fries and dino-shaped chicken nuggets.
The more I think about it, Lawson’s Landing is a pretty good contender for first place.
