I love that Cabo is a short 3 hour flight from San Francisco. The 2 hour drive from Sacramento is well worth it for the direct flight. If you’ve got little ones, you know exactly how important it is to avoid layovers and transfers if it’s possible. It makes it so much more enjoyable knowing that we’ll only have to board a plane once to get to our destination.
Let’s get to the food, shall we?
Seriously, we go to Cabo for the food. Sure, the beaches are nice and El Arco is beautiful. But! Our goal, when traveling here, is to hit up all of our favorite food spots! We’ll give you the top 3, not in any particular order…that’s like choosing your favorite child!
1. Los Claros
They have several locations throughout the area but our fave is the one located on Ignacio Zaragoza. It’s on a narrow street hidden away from all the hustle and bustle. We just love it there. The salsa bar is the biggest I’ve ever seen. Calling it a salsa bar doesn’t do it justice, it’s really more like an appetizer bar- fried onion rings, fried jalapenos, cabbage salad. It’s amazing! I could eat just what’s at the bar and be completely satisfied! My favorite thing to order is the scallop tacos.
2. Salvatore G’s Italian Restaurant
I know, I know, we’re in Mexico but I’m going to list an Italian restaurant? I was skeptical at first, too. This restaurant wasn’t even on our list of places to eat but we found it one day while aimlessly walking the streets. We stood there looking over the menu which was posted outside its doors. Patron after patron kept waddling past us carrying bags of leftovers. “Try it, you won’t be disappointed,” one of them said. Another group was making its way out the door. “The portions are huge! Our family comes here every year!” We were sold. And now we come here every time we’re in Cabo. Our faves are the lasagna, porchetta, and tiramisu. (The porchetta sells out most nights so you might want to call ahead.)

3. Cafe Dona Nena
Okay, so technically this isn’t a restaurant. But it still makes top 3!!! This coffee shop is located in the San Jose del Cabo area. It’s a quick 30 minute drive from Cabo San Lucas. This little coffee spot might be all the reason you need to get a rental car! I’m not even kidding. It’s tucked away in an open courtyard. We drove by it maybe 3x before we realized just where it was located. Thank goodness we found it because- Best. Coffee. Everrr. We drove here just about every day and it’s our final stop when heading back to the airport. Added bonus- they have scoops of ice cream for the kids. There’s also a bakery next door called La Panaderia.
