There’s been a lot of firsts for many of us this year.
I can name 2 right off the top of my head. During the first month of quarantine, I learned how to make boba from scratch. And, thanks to Tik Tok, I also learned how to make dalgona coffee. Anyone else?
Well, now I have a 3rd thing I can add to my list of 2020 firsts.
A drive-by birthday!

If you haven’t thrown a drive-by birthday yourself, you’ve probably attended one. Regardless of how you may feel about them, they’re definitely a “thing” and are now a part of American history.
I recently had the opportunity to help organize my Mom’s 70th birthday celebration and it was done drive-by style. Much to my surprise, it was actually a whole lot of fun to do and my mom felt special on her big day!
So, let me show you what you need to make your next drive-by celebration a spectacular one!

LAWN SIGNS
Make sure there’s something BIG outside your home to make it stand out. Lawn signs by Party Image are the perfect visual to let all your friends know where the celebration is at! They have a variety of signs and can make any custom order to fit your occasion. Check them out here: https://www.instagram.com/party_image_/

BALLOON ARRANGEMENTS
A large balloon arrangement adds a fun pop of color! It’s not a party without balloons! Drea’s Balloons can make custom bouquets, garlands and columns for your next event. They can match the colors to go with any theme. My mom loved her balloon arrangement. It also makes for a cool photo op! Send them a message here: https://www.instagram.com/dreas_balloons/

CHOCOLATE HEART BOX
A chocolate heart smash box is a fun alternative to the traditional birthday cake. It’s hollow so small gifts can be hidden inside for the celebrant to discover. It’s a unique way to present gift cards, candy, or little trinkets. It was delicious as it was beautiful. Chocolate covered strawberries can also be added for extra sweetness. Sugar By Sharon also offers custom cake orders. See all of her creations here: https://www.instagram.com/sugar.by.sharon/
FOOD
Guests were delighted to be handed a box of food for them to take home. We had food catered by a local restaurant, South Villa, and packaged it up to make combo plate boxes. I guess it was a party favor of some kind!

GIFT ATTENDANT
Designate someone as the gift attendant. This was my daughter’s job during my Mom’s birthday. As cars pulled up, my Mom would receive gifts and my daughter would take them to the gift table. This made sure my Mom was free to mingle without having to worry about having her hands full.

MAKE IT INTERACTIVE
Drive-by birthdays can be a bit lackluster. A way to combat this is to make the celebration as interactive as possible. Upon entering the property, guests were welcomed by a table with roses. A sign was displayed asking guests to take a rose to give to my Mom as they greeted her. It was a sweet activity between guests and the birthday celebrant.

PATHWAY
Make it easy for guests to navigate around the property whether it’s on an acreage or suburban neighborhood. Consider sending guests a screenshot of the route you’d like for them to take. It makes it easier when everyone is following the same direction allowing the birthday boy or girl to see everyone in an organized fashion.

THAT’S IT!
Remember to have fun and make the person you’re celebrating have a memorable experience!
