As a stay at home mom, I’m with my kids A LOT. But lots of time together doesn’t necessarily equate to lots of quality time together. I try to make it a point to spend one-on-one time with each child a few times a year. We do the quick lunch dates and boba dates here and there. But getting that extended QT that includes an overnight stay (or two) makes it extra special. If you can swing an overnighter, I totally recommend it. The extra time makes for a less rushed experience. (Thanks to the hubby for making it happen!)

Let me tell you about our recent Mommy & Me Staycation at The Exchange Sacramento, Curio Collection by Hilton.

The Exchange is the newest hotel to open its doors in Downtown Sacramento. It’s located smack dab in the middle of everything you could possibly want when visiting the capital of the Golden State. We were able to walk to all the shops and restaurants in the area. It was a huge bonus to not have to drive anywhere once we arrived.
The building was built in 1914 as the California Fruit Building. The 10 story building is considered Sacramento’s first high-rise. I thought that was so cool! I love visiting historic buildings like this. It’s a great way to show kids a little piece of history.

We stayed in a One King Bed. It was just enough room for the two of us. There’s a mini fridge, too, so we were able to keep our drinks nice and cold. The bath products were by Korres. Fancy! We also had a view of the Golden 1 Center from our room.
We had the nicest surprise at sunset- hundreds maybe thousands of crows filled the sky. Apparently the crows roost on the trees just across from the hotel. It was a beautiful thing to see! I was able to capture some of it on video.
Downtown Commons (DOCO) is just steps from the hotel. DOCO has several dining and shopping options to choose from. It’s also a great place to just sit and people watch. Lawn games like cornhole and wooden blocks are usually left out for everyone to enjoy.
Admiring the Christmas lights.
We took a quick 5 minute stroll through DOCO to reach the Downtown Ice Rink. Morgan and I have never ice skated before. It was a fun and memorable experience trying to learn together. In case you were wondering, neither of us got the hang of it. But we do plan on trying again. Maybe next year?
If you have family visiting for the holidays, The Exchange would be a wonderful place for them to stay. It’s centrally located and easily accessible from the major Sacramento freeways.
We had a wonderful time on our Mommy & Me Staycation. You should try it with your mini me.
Thank you, The Exchange Sacramento, for having us!
