Ever wonder how they made the “Pew! Pew!” sound effects in all the Star Wars movies?
It’s the sound that’s generated by hitting long metal wires. Who would’ve thunk?!
I thought this would be a pretty cool science experiment to do with the kids. We love doing hands on activities and this is a perfect fit!
So, we took our slinky (long metal wire) and tried to replicate the same sound.
All you need is:
1. A slinky
2. A cup
Take the slinky and wrap some of the rings around the bottom of the cup. Next, hold up the cup and slinky so that the slinky doesn’t touch the ground. Now, flick the slinky and listen!
If you don’t already have a slinky, you can get one here. We used the giant slinky but I’m pretty sure the regular size works just as well.
We thought it was pretty cool experiment! I didn’t even tell the kids what sound effect we were trying to make and they said, “Hey! It sounds like shooting!”
Try it out and see for yourself!
